Frequently Asked Questions About Kyield
What is Kyield?
Kyield is a type of operating system for managing organizations over distributed computer networks. The OS (CKO) manages the organization's neural network, containing both biological (human knowledge workers) and artificial elements, with a mix of cognitive ability in each, tailored to each entity and continuously adaptive as conditions warrant. While Kyield's IP and IC pipeline is now much greater, an AI systems patent served as the initial foundation for Kyield: ‘Modular System for Optimizing Knowledge Yield in the Digital Workplace’, United States Patent 8005778, issued August 23, 2011. Kyield’s applications focus on human-computer interaction for crisis prevention, expedited discovery, productivity and sustainable economics. The system functionality represents a convergence of multiple segments as defined by leading analysts, including MDM, search, analytics, productivity, human performance, and was named in the ‘Future of BI’ report by Forrester Research in 2012. Kyield has always supported independent standards, interoperability, and plug and play design.
What value does Kyield provide customers?
Our extensive research has demonstrated that a super majority of human-caused crises would be prevented if pre-existing data on enterprise servers were structured appropriately and managed with the Kyield enterprise system, as would be a substantial portion of missed opportunities with expedited discovery. When successful, taken together these are the highest known levels of ROI possible. The Kyield system also substantially increases human performance, productivity and visual metrics.
Specific focus in applications:
Crisis prevention and risk management.
- Continuously adaptive, continuous improvement.
Growth through expedited discovery, enhanced innovation, and predictive analytics.
Increased productivity for all knowledge workers included in the system.
Improved relationship management, especially when partners also have Kyield installed.
Ability to differentiate products and services in a medium that has been commoditized.
- Potential significant reduction in data storage, data centers, and telecom costs.
What is the basic functionality of the Kyield system?
The foundational system covered by our IP and trade craft provides the ability to continuously manage the quality and quantity of structured data based on the self-managed profile of each entity within organizational, regulatory, and governance parameters. The modular system includes applications for each entity to execute the covered functionality. The CKO engine and modules are proprietary with APIs that provide the ability to manage yield of structured (semantic) data for the entire organization, a group module provides adaptive management for business units, and an individual module enables the ability to tailor data consumption to their time and goal-oriented needs. On top of this platform we then provide advanced analytics applications, algorithms, and third party plug-ins.
Why hasn’t Kyield built a pilot system on spec for testing in the public cloud?
We have thoroughly investigated this option. Due to the physics involved, the cost of developing a fully functional prototype for a hypothetical organization in the cloud (rather than integration) is nearly identical to an actual organization. Kyield isn't a single application, but rather a holistic system with data structure that needs to be integrated with customer organizations, primarily with their pre-installed systems. It can be done, but it's quite costly and beyond the level of acceptable speculation at our current funding levels with an organic model.
What are the greatest risks facing Kyield, customers, and partners?
The greatest risks to Kyield are markets that are acclimatized to subsidies by large speculative investors and other types of subsidies like governments, resulting in increasingly high failure rates and unhealthy alignment.
Entrenched interests in the enterprise IT industry and related ecosystems that have long served as barriers to much-needed innovation in organizational systems like that of Kyield, particularly those that view interoperability as a disruptive threat to legacy business models.
Customers that advocate for innovation, advanced systems, and data standards but spend the super majority of budgets on outdated legacy systems at incumbents.
Competition with internal groups at customer organizations or those closely aligned with customers. Data standards and open systems have a special challenge in this regard, which is why Kyield was compelled early on to follow an IP model with trade secrets and proprietary engines.
Patent infringement and theft of IP, combined with the high cost of enforcement that often surpasses $10 million USD, which may compel Kyield to take financial partners for that purpose, which may not be in the best interests of customers, partners, and markets.
Unsustainable revenue that may compel Kyield to sell prematurely to those who may intend to prevent others from employing the IP and system functionality. Kyield is very close to financial sustainability as of this writing, but this is always a risk for new technology companies.
How much training is involved with adoption of Kyield?
No training is required for the individual module other than a help tab similar to others on browsers, although Kyield will provide video training for optimization and continuous improvement.
The group module requires some training for the administrator through a brief tutorial, which typically requires two to three hours on average upon install and referenced as needed.
The CKO engine is the most complex, requiring a combination of training and consulting during the installation, testing, and optimization during the pilot program. An expert approved by Kyield will guide the client through the pilot process, confirm settings, and is available for the duration as needed.
Do you provide certification for Kyield?
An initial certification process is underway for the CKO engine administrator due to the importance to customer organizations, with an emphasis on optimizing enterprise-wide data management and analytics throughout the engine settings. This role is primarily one of organizational management, not engineering, although significant exposure to related topics and disciplines is expected. The training and certification process is provided directly by Kyield or through approved partners.
How do we (customers) know Kyield will be around in a few years?
Our license agreements are quite customer-friendly, including clauses for any unforeseen event that would cause a bankruptcy and/or liquidation of Kyield. However, the company and founder have no debt, excellent credit, significant cash reserves, and the company is very close to financial sustainability. The lean organic model provides the highest probability of survival, but of course it always depends on customer adoption, mutual support and continuous improvement to remain a viable leader.
What is the net job impact of Kyield?
We expect the net impact in large customer organizations to be + single digits through the pilot phase, which depending on internal strengths and composition could be new hires, consultants, or functional transfers. By the end of a typical two year pilot timeline we expect a significant number of new hires and investment from most large private companies. We are confident the Kyield system will identify opportunities that were not possible to see previously. Importantly, Kyield's focus on crisis prevention is expected to mitigate or prevent a high majority of serious future human caused crises as Kyield is adopted, both in terms of counter party risk as we observed in the financial crisis (which caused many millions of job losses), and within individual ecosystems or companies. Any negative net loss of jobs is expected to be in IT roles that were solely dependent upon lack of interoperability in legacy systems, which have a considerably negative economic impact, whether internally or externally.
